Kitten Care
When you arrive home with your kitten, it should be shown its litter tray first.
It is best to have the same kind of litter that they have been used to. our kittens all leave home with sample bags of cat litter and of course the food they have been used to. In fact we always say our kittens leave with plenty of luggage.
We use a wood based cat litter as we do not like the clumping varieties, and more to the point neither do the kittens.
Do not place the litter tray near the kittens food,
or you will find that he,
a) will not have a good appetiteor
b) will not use his litter

The litter tray should be positioned where
it can be reached easily, away from the main stream of traffic in your
house. Our kittens are completely litter trained but they do need to be
shown where their new tray is and to quietly in their own way, explore
their new surroundings.
Some kittens are extremely bold and will
explore immediately but sometimes a rather shy kitten may be a little
reluctant to venture too far. It is best to leave the kitten to it’s own
devices for a while and to watch quietly from a distance. remember
they have left the security of being a part of their feline family
and their litter mates.
Whilst we cannot dictate what you choose for 'your' kitten, we would much prefer that our kittens are not allowed outside. They have never known the outside world and there is absolutely no truth in the old wives tale that they are missing out on something by being kept inside their loving and safe homes.
Cats love to sit in a sunny window ledge and watch the world go by – but this does not mean that they want to go outside, they are just naturally nosey.

Companionship, a warm lap and cat toys
are just what an inside cat loves.
We change our cat toys regularly to keep
our cats stimulated and very often they will devise their own games
with bits of sweet papers, an empty box or two and other household
items, sponges go missing, along with socks, small packages, balls of
wool and whatever else they fancy but it all adds to the fun.
But one thing is certain our cats are
safe.
It is very important that you do not change
a kitten’s diet until they have well and truly settled in. Our kittens
leave with samples of the food that they are used to.
We always feed our cats and kittens on a
high quality diet with Iams, Hills Science Diet and James Wellbeloved,
Proplan and Royal Cannin are available freely all day.
The research that as gone into producing
the dried food proves that it is the best diet you can give your cat.
The dried food is a complete diet and if your cat/kitten ate nothing
else they would be perfectly happy and healthy on a diet of dried food.
We do use canned cat food but it only forms
a very small basis of the cats diet as it contains very little real
goodness. It is in fact the equivalent of our ‘fast food’, so instead
we prefer to give real food cooked naturally, and for this reason we
highly recommend 'Applaws' our cats and kittens adore it.
Cats are carnivores, they need meat to
survive. A cat requires at least 38% of protein in their diet and most
tinned food contains between 8 – 12 % that’s an awful of lot of tinned
food.
Always keep a good supply of fresh drinking water available at all times
